Being able to work with a multitude of textures allows for further customization and enhancement of the structures. Architectural drawings are the basis for manufacturing ahead of construction schedules

Structures are built to comply with seismic load requirements if applicable

The material used for this project was granite. After the dimensioning of the stone by saw, the granite received a thermo treatment to reinstate its natural texture. This ensured the natural feel and tactile qualities of the stone without compromising the integrity of the design

The owners of this project were interested in a fireplace that would create a contemporary feel within their country style home

I decided to use the simplicity of cubical forms in my design to achieve the set goal of a modern look. Sculpting the surfaces with traditional mechanical means gave me full control of the appearance of the columns. I choose a very rough initial chisel texture which I later relieved with honing. This technique allowed me to achieve an aged look that tied the work in with the theme of the house
